Why did you become a director for MCFB?
I thought it would be a great opportunity to meet with local farms to learn about many issues that affect our future and to understand different views of issues that many of us will and have faced.

What is your involvement with agriculture?
I am a dairyman/farmer. Currently I am a partner with my father and brother. We farm approximately 900 acres in corn silage double cropped to oats and 200 acres in alfalfa. I operate the farming while my brother and father run the 1000+ milk cow dairies. My wife also has a dairy where I manage her 200 acres of corn double cropped to silage and help with the dairy.

How long have you been involved with agriculture?
All my life. I grew up on the family dairy. Now I am a partner with my father and brother on the dairy.

What are your interests in Farm Bureau?
As a new Director I hope that I will be able to add input to many issues that we will have to face now and in the future. I’ve always loved farming as a kid. As a father now, I hope my children can make farming their career and enjoy it as well.

What problems do you see facing agriculture in the near future?
Water and air regulations that may cause the decline of family farms. As a farmer I do believe that there are regulations that do have to be in place but they need to be realistic to a degree. It just seems that agriculture is always finding its way to someone’s list as a problem.

Are you involved in any other clubs or organizations and if so could you explain your role?
I was president in 1992 and 2009 for the Gustine Pentecost Society, which represents our Portuguese heritage and catholic religion. I’m also a director for Our Lady of Miracles celebration and a member of YMI.

What is one thing someone wouldn’t know about you?
I always take the week off of Thanksgiving to camp at Oceano Dunes with my family. I enjoy barbequing, swimming and going to the lake. Any spare time I have I try to spend with my family and close friends.
